Rio Guerrero, Partner

Attorney Guerrero is renowned for 15 years of successfully representing companies, organizations and individuals with complicated U.S. visa, work permit and green card matters. In particular, he is respected for achieving creative solutions for profoundly complex immigration cases.

In 2012, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) presented Attorney Guerrero with the coveted “Best Lawyers Under 40” national award. He was selected among distinguished attorneys nationwide for his long and outstanding record of success representing corporate and individual clients in matters involving U.S. immigration law. Also in 2012, Attorney Guerrero received the “Contributions to Excellence” award from the Filipino-American National Historical Society (FANHS), recognizing his national success as a Filipino-American attorney, and his commitment to the preservation and promotion of Filipino-American history and culture.

Deeply involved in all facets of immigration law, Mr. Guerrero is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), where he is one of eight members appointed to serve on the National Committee on Health Care Professionals. He founded and currently Co-Chairs the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) Immigration and Nationality Law Committee, and he is a member of the Corporate Immigration Committee and the U.S. Department of Labor Committee for the AILA-New York Chapter.

A distinguished Edward V. Sparer Fellow of Brooklyn Law School, Attorney Guerrero also holds one baccalaureate degree in Economics and a second in International Studies as a Dean’s Scholar of The American University of Washington D.C. Since 2007, he has taught as an Adjunct Professor of Immigration Law at the City University of New York – School of Professional Studies. A sought-after speaker in his field, he frequently lectures at continuing legal education seminars and other pro bono events.

An adept writer and valued resource on U.S. immigration law and procedure, Attorney Guerrero has authored articles published in newspapers and other periodicals and media. He has also served as a U.S. immigration law expert witness before the New Jersey State Superior Court System.

Attorney Guerrero is authorized to represent clients in all fifty United States and abroad, and is admitted to practice law in the State Courts of New York and New Jersey, the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

As a second-generation Filipino-American, Attorney Guerrero understands on a personal level the courage necessary to go through the immigration process, as well as the tremendous opportunities that arise by immigrating to the U.S. He often provides pro bono legal services assisting the Filipino-American community, including past service as legal counsel for the Philippine New York Jaycees and for Collaborative Opportunities for Raising Empowerment (CORE) — both non-profit organizations that champion the development of young Filipino-American leaders.

When he is not working, Rio enjoys time with his wife and two young children. They live on a cobblestone street in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.
